ATA News update: The band, the road crew and the staff at
Norkris Productions have all been so busy lately that we have neglected
to keep up with our news page here on the ATA website. A lot has
happened in the last few months. We have had some pretty big shows and
played all over the place. We are sure helping to make these oil tycoons
rich. I don't even want to think about all the $ spent on gas alone. But
no matter what it amounts to, it is all worth it for the guys to come
play for our fans. Thanks to all the hard work and the continuing
support of our fans, we have created quite a buzz in the Midwest area.
We have played a lot of new venues (to us) and a few newly opened
venues too. We have also opened for some great bands like Warrant, LA
Gunns, Quiet Riot, Tantric, Firehouse, Theory of A Deadman just to name
a few. And we have headlined many a show. But you know to us it's not
about who headlines or who we play with. Although that is important in a
way because it helps us to get in front of new potential fans, it is
more about playing the music and having a good time with the fans we
have who came to see us at whatever show we happen to be at that night.
We know you all work hard and every once and awhile you like to
unwind and throw a couple back and listen to some good live music. To
us, that is what it's about mostly, having a good time. Yeah sure we
hope that someday we can make a living doing this but that in it self
takes a lot of work. A lot of work to even get to that point. Did you
know that Jamie Lane pours cement all day long, then rushes to a gig to
perform for his fans. I know I would be dead tired after a day of
pouring cement! That is how passionate Jamie is about his people, his
fans. If it's not a gig it's a rehearsal or to the studio to work on the
next album. Rick Jackson puts in many hours a week as a District Manager
over 7 offices and then rushes to a gig. I have seen him playing on less
then 3 hours sleep. And Del, did you know that he played the last four
or five shows with a bad knee? On a Friday eve after performing he
dislocated his knee and the next day with it still out of socket he
played two shows while ignoring the severe pain. it was the knee on the
leg he played most, the kick drum side. He has played the last couple of
shows in pain as well and is still on crutches because he cannot even
walk on it.
Let me tell you these guys are dedicated! Dedicated to you the fans,
to the music and to having a good time helping everyone at a show kick
back for a minute, giving us all a chance to forget for awhile, about
all the things that we have to think about and worry about every fricken
day of our lives. And that to me is what this is all about, the power of
music! The power of music to heal our souls and remind us that we are
all in this life together. We all go through similar experiences and we
all need to unwind. What better way then to immerse yourself into some
great music we can all relate to.
I am Norm Coleman, I manage ATA, book their shows, and the president
of the label they are signed to and I am proud to be an ATA fan and I am
proud of all our ATA fans. I want to thank you all for the hard work you
do, doing what ever it is you do, and for taking the time to come out
and give your support by paying the cover charge, by buying a CD and a
T-shirt and by throwing down a few drinks. Doing so you support the
bands on the bill (the cover charge and merch), The label and
songwriters (the CD) and the venue (the drinks). Yes it is also about
the money. It takes money to make it happen. There are a lot of people
working hard like you do everyday, to make this happen. The PA and tech,
The Bartenders, The Waitresses, The Band, The Road Crew, The bands
management team, The label, The Venue staff, the security staff right on
down to the janitorial staff.
The ultimate compliment you can give us is to show us you support
what we are doing by buying a CD AND A SHIRT! You have already shown
support for the venue and staff by being there and to the band too but
ultimately unless you buy some merch, you left out some of the key
people needing your support. It's kind of like the waitress who works
for a measly base pay and counts on tips to really earn their living. If
the band is getting paid at all, it probably isn't much. (The expenses
are astounding). Even if they do get paid off the door, it is usually
split amongst the bands, unless the headliner is a national, then the
national act usually gets it all and the others get the "privilege" of
playing with them.
So the band makes most of it's money from the MERCH which they still
have to replace and then they can split what is left over amongst them.
The label gets it's share from CD's of which they pay the songwriters
and the band a percentage and then most if not all goes back into
promoting the band and recording the next album.
So you see, when we thank you for your support, we mean it!!! We
truly do thank you for your support! and when you buy a CD AND T-SHIRT
as well as any other merch we might have, we are happy to autograph it
for you, let you take a picture if you want. We will show our love to
you by doing these things and by putting on the best show we possibly
can, for your showing your love to us through your support.
Thanks again for being an ATA fan!!!
Much love
Norm Coleman
